From v16 to v19 of HFCS, the location of default database was no longer matching our specifications, which can cause problems. UPDATE 2016: Since v20 of HFCS, the default behaviour is back to normal, so everything will install in the directory you specify when installing the server package.
We normally set up in:
C:\HFServer or
D:\HFServer if the C: drive is just a system drive with limited storage (like a few GB on C: and hundreds of GB on D:)
AND THAT IS ALWAYS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.
If you have a v20 or over, you can stop reading here. What follows only apply if you install a fresh copy of v16 through v19 of HFCS:
From v16 to v19, installing in d:\HFServer, the Databases directory (BDD) is automatically set insRepCommonAppData, so either:
- On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\PC SOFT\ ServeurHyperFileSQL_NEOCOMPUTER5\BDD.
- Or on Vista, Seven, 8, 10: C:\Users\All Users\PC SOFT\ServeurHyperFileSQL_NEOLAPTOP5\BDD.
THIS IS A PROBLEM SINCE THIS DIRECTORY IS ALWAYS ON C:. THE BACKUPS ARE EXPECTED TO BE MADE IN THE SAME PLACE AND CAN VERY QUICKLY FILL ENTIRELY THE SERVER SYSTEM HARDDISK and so crash the server.
Solution:
At the time of installation:
- Install a new server.
- Click the “Advanced” button and change the setting to “location database” which is: %% CommonAppData%%\PC SOFT\ServeurHyperFileSQL_NEOCOMPUTER5\BDD and replace by %%EXE%%\BDD.
- Also change the location of logs.
